Budongo forest reserve allows a group of 6 people to go for chimp trekking in this forest .it is done twice a day that is in the morning and in the evening by the help of the interpretive guides who are able to talk more about the chimps and the forest.

Queen Elizabeth national park-kyambura gorge.

Kyambura gorge is located in the far eastern part of queen Elizabeth national park and was nicknamed ‘’the valley of the apes’’. This kyambura gorge is the third destination famous for chimp trekking in Uganda.

Kyambura gorge is blessed with 17 chimps and the opportunity of sighting them is at 60%. Therefore, you can book the gorilla trekking permits from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. You can also experience other safari activities like boat cruise, game drive plus the tree climbing lions in the ishasha sector of queen Elizabeth national park.

Kibale forest national park.

Kibale forest national park is the major chimpanzee trekking destination in Uganda with over 1500 chimpanzees. The rain forest is situated in the south western part of Uganda and can easily be accessed from Kampala or Entebbe.

Kibale forest has the highest eye-catching chimpanzees making the sighting rate to be high up to 90% and above where by you can combine this safari with other interesting experiences.

The chimpanzee tracking experience is done twice a day in the morning and in the afternoon but the morning shift is busier especially when the itinerary combines it with the exploration of the Bigodi wetland sanctuary. You have to go with the tracking permits and are booked from the Uganda Wildlife Authority.

Ngamba island sanctuary is blessed with over 52 orphaned and rescued chimpanzees and surrounded with the cool waters of Lake Victoria managed and gazetted by the chimpanzee sanctuary and wildlife conservation trust.

Ngamba island gives you the opportunity to sight the chimps feeding from the raised deck and can get chance to witness the two feeding sessions in a single day while escorted by the chimp guide. You can throw them some food to eat especially the ripe fruits and experience their excitement and the attention they give you so that to sight them clear.

Chimp enrichment programs can also help you meet one on one with the chimps and challenge the chimp critical understanding and also can help you to learn more about the chimps like how to prepare their food, learn to feed the chimps and also if you want can help and clean where they sleep.

You can meet our closest relatives without interruption in case you provide a valid health proof you can participate in the chimp integration experience. You can also view them on trees and adapting the culture of living with people around them. You can go in for a 1hour controlled experience with the chimps.

You are advised by the chimp guide of how they came into existence, their historical background and lifestyle. You can get chance to groom them and also be groomed by their infants. The guide helps you to interpret the different sounds, gestures and advises you how to behave while with the chimps. Best time to go chimp trekking in Uganda.

Uganda is the best destination to go for chimp trekking all year round due to its equatorial climate with consistent temperatures through out the year. Uganda has two seasons in the year that is the dry and wet seasons.

The best time for chimp trekking is in the dry season which ranges between June to September and December to February. The trekking condition is favorable during dry season because you enjoy more due to clear, sunny weather and the Uganda’s tropical climate. During the peak season the accommodation rate is high due to the increased demand but if you can manage difficult trekking situation you can go chimp trekking in wet season to make the cost of your trip low because even the permits can be got at a low and reduced price due to the low demand.
