When do the changes on the gorilla trekking permits take place?

In  January 24, 2024, the Uganda wildlife Authority (UWA) announced  and revealed its plans to adjust or make changes in the gorilla permit fees. The price of the Uganda gorilla trekking fees for the foreign Non-residents, shall increase from $700 to $800 per person trekking the Gorillas. Whilst the foreign residents as the East African Citizens, the gorilla trekking permits fees shall increase from $500 to $700 per person trekking.

Why does the Uganda Wildlife Increase the Price of Gorilla Tracking Permits for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla Park?

According t the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Director, Sam Mwandha  who shared the highlights into the decision saying “After conducting thorough market research and engaging in constructive discussions with multiple stakeholders, UWA has completed a comprehensive review of our conservation Tariff chat”.

This is one of the driving forces towards the adjustments in the pricing of some selected park activities. The key aim or goal of this change was to ensure that our gorilla pricing fees structure remains equitable, competitive and in regards with the current market dynamics as well as taking in to account the diverse perspective and highlight that has been shared during our consultation sessions or research.

He further highlighted that, the revived fee’s structure shall provide essential fund for the gorilla safari park operations, law enforcement activities, community projects as well the health monitoring of the life of the habituated gorillas families open for gorilla tourism’’.
