Wildlife in Queen Elizabeth National Park Uganda

The most commonly spotted in the park include; the Uganda Kobs, the African Savannah Elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks, lions, African Buffaloes and the leopards, Warthogs among others abundance of wildlife, that has made the park one of the great game viewing destination.

It is home to about 2500 individuals of Elephants, that can be spotted on a game drive with in the park or a boat cruise along the kazinga channel. Impressive populations of the African buffaloes commonly seen at lake Nyamununka during hot temperatures as well as on the shores of Kazinga channel. The Kasenyi plains act as a breeding ground for the Uganda Kobs which are seen in huge numbers and they are a favorite prey to the lions, spotted plus leopards in this section of the park.  Lions are also huge number in kasenyi plains due to the abundance of their favorite prey- the antelopes. 

Primates

The rich biodiversity of the park features impressive individuals of primate populations which are found in the forest areas of the park.  Primates in Queen Elizabeth national park can be spotted in the Kyambura gorge and the Maramagambo forest. They include; the welcoming habituated chimpanzees, olive baboons, white and black colobus monkeys, Vervet monkeys, red tailed monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys among others.

Reptiles

The common species of reptiles that is commonly spotted are Nile crocodiles which are usually seen in big numbers sunbathing at the shores of Kazinga Channel. These live together in harmony with other wildlife in the park. other reptiles that can be seen in the park include; the pythons, monitor Lizards, tortoise among others.

Carnivores

There is a wide range of fascinating carnivores in Queen Elizabeth national park which make game viewing extremely exciting such as; the lions, genial, lions, hyenas, Serval cats among others. without forgetting the famous tree climbing lions situated in the Ishasha Sector,  Queen Elizabeth national park is a great paradise for amazing Carnivores in Uganda.

Birds

The park prides for hosting the biggest number of birds in East Africa. There are over 600 bird species where some are Albertine endemic and others are residents to the area. They include; Black-rumped Buttonquaila, Martial Eagle, Papyrus Gonolek, White winged warbler, Black Bee-eater, African Broadbill among others.

Vegetation

There are five types of vegetation that has dominated queen Elizabeth national park. the biggest portion is covered by the savannah vegetation and this is where you find the Ishasha sector and Kasenyi plains featuring scattered thickets and tall grasslands. In the dry season when temperatures are hot, this grass turns golden brown thus Predators in the park poses the characteristic of camouflaging in this grass so that they can hunt their favorite prey. The swamps and wetlands are found along waterbodies in the park, the forest vegetation along Kyambura gorge and Maramagambo, thickets and bushes mainly in Mweya peninsular while as the Savannah grassland is found along the Kyambura-Kichwamba escarpments,
