Meet the Kings of the Savanna, Serengeti.

The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania is famous for its beautiful landscapes and amazing wildlife. But the true stars of this vast land are the lions, often called the kings of the savanna.

Lions are the largest meat-eating animals in Africa and live in family groups called prides. These groups are made up of several females, their cubs, and a few strong male lions.

On your safari with Jeisking Tours, you’ll have the chance to see these majestic animals up close in the wild.

Why Visit the Serengeti to See Kings of the Savanna?

The Serengeti is one of the best places in the world to see wild lions. It is home to over 3,000 lions, and they live all across the park. This makes it very likely you’ll see them while on a game drive.

The large open grasslands of the Serengeti are perfect for lions. There is plenty of space, many animals to hunt, and water sources where lions and their prey gather.

Whether you come in the dry season or during the Great Migration, lions are always nearby.

What is a lion pride?

Kings of the Savanna are different from other big cats like leopards or cheetahs because they live in groups. These groups are called prides, and they are like big families. A typical pride has

  • 3 to 6 lionesses (female lions)
  • 2 to 4 males (usually brothers or cousins)
  • Cubs (young lions)

In some parts of the Serengeti, Kings of the Savanna prides grow even bigger. These are called super prides, and they can have over 20 to 40 lions in one group. Some rare prides even have 60 lions or more!

Super Prides: A Rare and Exciting Sight

Seeing a super pride is one of the most exciting moments on a safari. These large groups need to hunt often, usually every 1 or 2 days, because they need a lot of food to survive. They hunt big animals like buffalo, wildebeest, and zebra.

The best part? With Jeisking Tours, you’ll have expert guides who know exactly where to find these big prides. You’ll be able to watch them as they rest under trees, play with their cubs, or move together in search of food.

Why Lions Live in Groups

Living in a pride helps Kings of the Savanna survive in the wild. Here’s why:

  • Teamwork in hunting: Lionesses hunt together, which helps them catch larger prey.
  • Safety for cubs: Cubs are protected by the group from hyenas and other predators.
  • Stronger territory control: Male lions in the pride protect the area from other males.

Working together means lions are safer and more successful in the harsh savanna. This is one reason why the Serengeti is full of healthy, strong lion families.

Feel the earth tremble beneath your feet as the king of the Serengeti emerges from the golden grasslands. With Jesiking Tours, your safari isn’t just a journey; it’s a front-row seat to nature’s fiercest drama.

How Do Lions Organize Their Lives?

In a pride, each lion has a role. The lionesses do most of the hunting and take care of the cubs. The male lions protect the pride from other lions or dangers.

If new males try to take over a pride, they may fight the current males and even harm cubs to take control.

Lion prides also defend territories, large areas of land where they hunt and raise their young. These territories can be as big as 500 square kilometers. That’s why safari guides use their knowledge and tracking skills to find where each pride is on any given day.

When Is the Best Time to See Kings of the Savanna?

Lions live in the Serengeti all year round, but the dry season (June to October) is the best time to spot them. During this time:

  • The grass is shorter, so it’s easier to see animals.
  • Lions gather near rivers and waterholes.
  • The weather is cooler, especially in the mornings and evenings, when lions are most active.

Our Jeisking Tours guides will take you out early in the morning or late in the afternoon to give you the best chance to see lions walking, hunting, or resting.
